Project details
The long-vacant Hilltop Arms apartment building at 600 Montgomery Street is being reimagined as a 98-key boutique hotel and conference center, reinvigorating a once-proud 1950s structure that had become a symbol of neglect. Owned by the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), creators of the Legacy Museum and Memorial for Peace and Justice, the project transforms the eight-story, 80,000-square-foot building into a destination for museum visitors and business and leisure travelers. This adaptive reuse honors the building’s history while reconnecting it to the community, fostering growth and revitalization in Downtown Montgomery.
The new hotel will feature 15,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 200-seat ballroom, a rooftop pool and event area, a meditation garden, and a chef-inspired full-service restaurant. Guestrooms with floor-to-ceiling windows offer sweeping views of the city, while public spaces create a calm atmosphere for reflection. A newly constructed five-story, 35,000-square-foot reception and conference center will connect to the hotel via a pedestrian bridge over Montgomery Avenue, symbolizing a bridge between the past and future, enriching both the community and visitor experience.
