Embark is dedicated to transforming the lives of teens facing mental health challenges and substance-use disorders through evidence-based practices in a nurturing environment. At Embark Walnut Creek, the design challenge was to create a welcoming outpatient space that fostered open dialogue and comfort for teens and their families. The design reflected Embark’s holistic approach, treating the family while resonating with teens as young adults, avoiding a juvenile feel. By creating a home-like environment with residential touches, the space encouraged comfort and safety, resulting in a 95% attendance rate, far above industry averages.
To support Embark’s rapid growth and goal of reducing teen anxiety, depression, and suicide, the design team implemented cost-effective solutions. The clinic’s flexible design includes therapy rooms, a café, and lounge spaces, serving up to 100 clients daily. Cost-conscious choices, such as affordable flooring and quick-ship products, preserved the brand’s essence while cutting construction costs, supporting faster expansion and more locations nationwide.
