After 35 years operating in their Headquarters in downtown Atlanta, Georgia-Pacific identified a need to transform their workplace that was no longer in alignment with their organizational goals and culture. In an effort to create the most innovative solutions supporting their business, they identified key long-term strategy, design, and change management project partners who would help them transform GP Center.
The goal for the new workplace was to create a more effective environment for GP’s employees to grow and create value by enabling greater productivity and innovation through new ways of working, while increasing worker productivity and satisfaction.
The selected workplace strategy scenario resulted in a 40% increase in capacity while occupying 10 less floors in GP Center. The alignment of the design of the space to work processes led to significant technology investments to better support collaboration and mobility, 3x more conference rooms and double the variety of space types offered to employees. These new space types include Focus Rooms to support individual heads down work and Work Cafés to allow for more ad hoc collaboration and socializing. Anecdotally, we have learned that people are getting to know members of their teams that they had not known before because the workplace now supports these casual interactions. Post-occupancy feedback suggests that the majority of employees working in the new space prefer the new workplace to their previous one, and the technology investments have significantly improved people’s ability to work and collaborate from anywhere.
