Hendrick Completes Ground-Up Synovus Midland Commons Branch Project: A New Standard for Bank Design and Brand Alignment
Atlanta, GA – October 2025 – Hendrick is proud to announce the completion of the Synovus Midland Commons branch, the first ground-up architecture and interior project by Hendrick for the financial institution. With a long-standing history of successful interior projects for its other branches, Synovus turned to Hendrick for full architecture and interior design services on this project.
Situated in the vibrant Midland Commons shopping district in Columbus, Georgia, the new branch consolidates three older locations into one modern, highly functional space. The 3,200-square-foot, single-story building features a striking design centered around a double-height foyer with 20-foot ceilings. This soaring public space creates a dynamic experience that sets the branch apart from surrounding structures. The building’s architecture acts as a visual anchor for the community, highlighting Synovus’ commitment to transparency, openness, and connectivity.
“We were intentional about bringing in as much light as possible to the space,” said Tim Sliger, architect at Hendrick. “All the windows and glass within the interiors reinforce Synovus’ core principle of transparency with their clients.”
The extensive use of glass and openness creates a welcoming environment inspired by hospitality and retail design. The interior supports a modern banking experience, with universal bankers assisting customers across a wide range of services. The space accommodates four teller stations, a walk-up ATM, and a drive-thru ATM, while also addressing essential bank functions such as night deposits and efficient vehicle queuing for drive-thru lanes.
One of the branch’s standout features is its 360-degree design, with no true “backside” of the building. The exterior incorporates locally inspired, wood-look elements that complement the surrounding landscape and reference the area’s wood mill industry history. Inside, collaboration with an AV firm resulted in a striking “wow” wall, adding an interactive and digital layer to the branch experience.
High-performance architectural elements were prioritized throughout the design. Energy-efficient glazing and deep overhangs provide shading for the expansive glass surfaces, while sustainable materials were incorporated wherever possible, aligning with Hendrick’s commitment to environmentally responsible design.
With its innovative, customer-centric approach, the Synovus Midland Commons branch sets a new standard for financial institutions, blending the warmth of hospitality with the efficiency of a retail environment.
