Hendrick principal and co-owner Christopher J. Heard was recently honored by the Auburn Alumni Association as a 2024 award recipient for Outstanding Alumni Achievement. Chris accepted the prestigious honor at a special ceremony during Auburn University’s annual Black Alumni Weekend celebration. The Auburn University Alumni Awards program recognizes recipients for outstanding achievements in their professional lives, personal integrity, stature, and service to Auburn University.
Chris was nominated for the prestigious award by the College of Architecture, Design, and Construction for his demonstrated involvement and commitment to the university. Among the 12 individuals honored this year, Chris joins a distinguished group of nationwide thought leaders, which includes authors, entrepreneurs, educators, healthcare providers, law enforcement professionals, senior business executives, and even an Olympic swimmer.
“Chris leads by example with a human-centric approach to design and relationship-building that inspires his colleagues each day to put our clients first as we design with passion,” said Jennifer Treter, fellow Hendrick principal and co-owner. “Chris is a respected leader in the architecture and design community, and we could not be prouder to call him our friend and colleague.”
Originally hailing from the state of Alabama, Chris graduated from Auburn in 1985 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. As the first in his immediate family to attend college, he was supported throughout his education by dedicated Auburn staff where he thrived and his early passion for architecture was nourished. In the time since leaving Auburn University, he has amassed a portfolio of design experience across all market segments that spans nearly four decades. Since joining the Hendrick team in 1986, Heard has helped shape the firm’s course by establishing and maintaining the highest standards. He was promoted to the role of principal in 2001 and became a managing principal and co-owner in 2008.
Chris and his expertise have been featured in a variety of print and digital media. In addition, he is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), the National Minority Supplier Diversity Council, and the Georgia Minority Supplier Diversity Council. Last October, Chris was recognized as a 2023 IIDA Leader at the organization’s annual leadership breakfast.
